  • EMC is acquiring Archer Technologies, a company that develops governance, risk and compliance software. The company has six million licensed users of its software and boats and impressive client list that includes 25 of the Fortune 100. The software tracks the lifecycle of corporate policies and objectives, analyzes and manages business risks, and compliance. EMC says that Archer’s technology will help its customers manage risk in their IT infrastructure.
  • Apple Inc. will unveil a new multimedia tablet device later this month, but isn’t planning to ship the product until March, say people briefed by the company to WSJ.
  • Cisco quietly opened up its purse strings once again to acquire data center security startup Rohati Systems for an undisclosed amount.
  • Apple is buying mobile advertising company Quattro Wireless for $275 million.
  • Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer showed off a prototype for a new HP Slate Computer running on Windows 7 in CES 2010. There is a similar HP Slate which also runs Google Android.
  • In CES 2010, Sony along with Discovery and IMAX announced that there would be a 3D channel by 2011. Also, Sony along with Samsung and Panasonic announced that they would be releasing a 3D TV in the summer of 2010.
